This is a hand spun and hand woven Khadi cotton saree from Udyog Bharti, Gondal and hand block printed with Tarapur print in Tarapur village with semi natural and eco friendly dyes.
Tarapur Print technique is a unique combination of Alizarin & Dabu printing practiced in Ummedpura village a twin village of Ummedpura & Tarapur villages. Tarapur print contains a variety of design patterns including geometrical pattern and even 2 blocks are sufficient to draw a single pattern unlike Nandana where minimum 3 blocks are used to draw a single design pattern.
Late Purushottam Jhariyaji got state award from MP government for his work developed this technique of alizarin printing & Dabu printing on the fabric today marketed as Tarapur Print. Today his son Pawan Jhariya & Banwari Jhariya continuing the tradition without compromising the process.
In this technique fabric first printed with syahi begar (traditional Red & black color) then dyed with Indigo using Dabu resist for blue background. To get green and yellow shade, indigo dyed fabric again dyed with pomegranate peel dye.
